An unforgettable Italian Feast in Udine BahramGour, 2016-03-13 I have been so busy with my business travels that I have run out of time for the simple pleasures in life. When I say that sleep has been a luxury for me the past few weeks, I am not exaggerating. So I finally found a sliver of time to bring you this post about the AMAZING dinner I had with my friends after a day of business in Udine, Italy. They treated me to an evening of local elegance and craft. Everything was very Italian, and different from my experiences in the big cities of Rome, Milan, and most recently Venice. We went to Trattoria Al Group to begin the fantastical feast. There is really no way for me to easily describe the lovely dinner I had. But if I could put it into words I would say the heart of the dinning experience there is regional food that honors the Italian traditions while also cultivating new experiences. It is farm to table meets Italian grandmother in the kitchen, with amazing wines to pair. One of the reasons that made the dinner so fantastic was that one of the men I was there on business with is an epicurean of Italian food and wine. I swear I could have listen to him talk the whole entire night about Italian local vegetables, cheeses, desserts and wines. It was truly a special treat! a plate of warm, bubbly, amazing baked cheesy goodness The food was not the most elegantly plated that I have experienced, but it did not have to be. The colors and the flavors spoke for themselves. In fact, it is the simplicity of the food and the experience that I greatly admired and left me wanting to come back for seconds and thirds. Similarly, the decor of the dining room followed suit– clean lines, lots of metal and copper, but a very warm feeling comes over you as you sit down to enjoy all of the varied Italian delights. one of our chefs putting the final touches on the meats before serving. And of course, I had to save my favorite for last. Can you take a guess? Well if you said dessert, than you get the prize! So many to choose from, and after all of the wonderful little courses I had before, I didn’t know what to do with myself except to let go, indulge in the dessert, and drink more wine! one of our servers explaining all of the desserts to us. I hope you enjoyed a little taste of the Trattoria near Udine, Italy. If you are ever in that area, please do yourself a favor and go to dinner here. You know if a place is packed full of locals, you came to the right spot! I feel like I learned so much from my friends and from this dining experience about Italian food a culture in a way I had never experienced before. Drop me a comment and share your thoughts with me.
